Send Encrypted Emails with Microsoft 365 Email

This article describes how to send encrypted emails through Office 365 when Azure RMS is licensed. 

Instructions

Using Outlook Desktop, Using "Encrypt" Button 

  1. Compose a new email
  2. Open the "Options"
  3. Click on the Encrypt Button and Select Option
    1. Encrypt Only - This encrypts the email and the user will be required to sign in to access the encrypted content
    2. Do Not Forward - This encrypts the email and makes it so the user cannot forward the email to others, or Print it, or Download it

Use Outlook on the Web, Using "Encrypt" Drop Down

  1. Login to Outlook on the Web
  2. Compose a New Message
  3. Click on the Triple Dots at the Top
  4. Navigate to Encrypt
  5. Select Encrypt or Do Not Forward
    1. Encrypt Only - This encrypts the email and the user will be required to sign in to access the encrypted content
    2. Do Not Forward - This encrypts the email and makes it so the user cannot forward the email to others, or Print it, or Download it

Using the Subject Line "[Encrypt]" - Optional, may not be configured

  1. Compose a new email on any device
  2. Add [Encrypt] the the subject line
  3. Send the email. 
This method only Encrypts the email. It will not apply the "Do Not Forward" properties.
