Set Up Passportal for the First Time

Set Up Passportal for the First Time

About

This article describes the steps for the first user to set up their Passportal site for the rest of their team to begin using.

Instructions

Create Account and Organization Key

  1. You will receive an email from "no-reply@passportalmsp.com". Check your junk email as it may have been sent there. In that link you'll receive a link to set up your account.
  2. The link will take you to a page like this:
    1.
  3. Create your "Organization Key".  The Organization Key can not be changed once it's set up. We recommend using an automatically generated key (we'd be happy to generate one for you), phrase, or sentence that is long and stored in a secure place. A good Organization Key will be at least 16 characters in length and include uppercase, lowercase, special characters, and numbers.
  4. Once you log in, we recommend enforcing MFA for everyone in your organization. You'll find MFA options in Settings. Feel free to reach out if you need help.

Add Existing Accounts to Passportal

Here's a pro tip on how to more easily add your existing accounts to Passportal with a new, more secure password.
  1. Login to the Passportal browser extension
    1. Install the extension in your browser (see above for links to download the extension)
    2. Login to the Passportal extension in your web browser
  2. Create the login to the existing account in Passportal from the extension
    1. Open the login page to the website you would like to add to Passportal
    2. Click the Passportal extension () and click add new login ()
    3. Generate a random password (click ) and then save the login
  3. Update the password for the existing account to the new one you generated
    1. Back at the login page for the website, click forgot password (this can be quicker than trying to locate the "change password" setting after logging into the website)
    2. Follow the steps to reset the password for the website, but set the password to the one you created in Passportal
    3. Try logging into the website using the information saved in Passportal
You're all set! The login to the website should now be saved to Passportal and your password updated to the random, more secure one you generated in Passportal. Now that you've added the password to Passportal, it would also be a good idea to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the website, if they allow it. This way you can better secure logins to your accounts with a two-step login process.
