Set Up MFA on Office 365 with Microsoft Authenticator App

This article includes step-by-step instructions for how to setup the Microsoft Authenticator as your MFA for your O365 Account

Prerequisites

Before this article applies, and administrator must enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) from the admin panel. 
Before completing these instructions, you will need  your login information to Office 365, as well as your phone.

Instructions

First: On Your Computer

  1. Go to https://portal.office.com/ in a web browser
  2. Sign into your account
    1. If you are already signed in, sign out, and then go back to step one.
  3. You will get stopped and a request for more information... Select "Next"

  4. Select "Mobile App" "Receive Notifications for Verification"

  5. Click "Setup"
    1. A screen with a QR code will pop up

Second: On Your Phone

  1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone
    1. Google Play Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azure.authenticator&hl=en_US 
    2. Apple Store Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-authenticator/id983156458
  2. Select "Skip" on personal microsoft account
  3. Select "Skip" on Non-Microsoft Account
  4. Select "Add Work Account"

  5. Select "Allow" for app to access pictures

  6. Scan the QR Code on your computer with the phone

Third: On Your Computer

  1. Select "Next" and wait for the next blue button to appear. 
  2. Select "Next"

Fourth: On Your Phone

  1. Click "Approve"

Fourth: On Your Computer

  1. When asked for a phone number, enter the area code and phone number
  2. Click Next
  3. Select "Done"
That's it! You're all done!
